Have questions about fire alarm systems and relays (PAM series relays, MR-100 series relays, MR series relays, MS relays)? Visit APC’s Relay FAQs to learn more.

What are the differences in the PAM series relays?

PAM-1 – 24VAC, 24VDC, 120VAC
PAM-2 – 12VDC, 24VDC
PAM-4 -12-40VDC for EOL circuits
PAM-SD – 20-32VDC ideal for NAC circuits

What applications is the PAM good for?

PAM relays are designed for fire alarm signal and control applications

What does the PAM do?

PAM relays act as an electronic switch and allow electrical signals to control an isolated dry relay contact

What power does the PAM series use?

PAM-1 – 50mA @ 24VAC, 20mA @ 24VDC, 50mA @ 120VAC
PAM-2 – 20mA @ 12VDC, 20Ma @ 24VDC
PAM-4 -20Ma @ 12-40VDC
PAM-SD – 15-25Ma @ 20-32VDC

What does the red LED indicate on a PAM?

The RED status LED indicates when the relay is energized

What listings does the PAM series meet?

All PAM series relays are listed to UL864

Where are the PAM series made?

The PAM relays are imported

How do I wire the relay contacts on the PAM relays?

Common is connected to normally closed when not energized, and common is connected to normally open when energized

Do the PAM series relays create voltage?

The PAM series relays no not output voltage and offer only a dry relay contact

How does a relay work?

Relays have an internal armature which changes from connecting common to normally closed, to connecting common to normally open when energized

Where does the red wire on the PAM series relay go?

APC cannot comment on how the relay is wired, only thing we can help you with is the functioning of the relay.

Control wire vs Output wire on the PAM series

Control wires control the switching of the relay and the output wires are connected to the dry internal relay contact which is the circuit that is being controlled. The control circuit and the output circuit are fully isolated.

What do I do with the extra wires on the PAM relay?

All spare wires should be wirenut terminated

Do I need to install a relay?

Relays are ideal for applications where a low voltage signal needs to control a high voltage signal and vice versa or a full isolation is required between the control circuit and the external connections.

What is the difference in the MR-100 series relays?

The MR-100 Series relays are multi-voltage relays offered in a grey enclosure, a red enclosure or on plastic track. The PAM relays are small encapsulated relays with flying leads.

What does the MR series relays do?

MR relays act as an electronic switch and allow electrical signals to control an isolated dry relay contact

What power do the MR relays use?

24VDC. this is powered from the wiring connections from the duct detector

What does the red LED on the MR series indicate?

The RED status LED indicates when the relay is energized

Where are the MR relays made?

MR relays are manufactured in the USA

What are the MR series remotes listed to?

All MR series relays are listed to UL864

How do you wire the MR series remotes?

to wire to a SL-2000 use the following wiring connections: C+ to 20, T/R to 1, P+ to 2, AL+ to 11, C- to 19.

How do I wire the relay contacts on the MS relays?

Common is connected to normally closed when not energized, and common is connected to normally open when energized

Do the MR relays create voltage?

The MR series relays no not output voltage and offer only a dry relay contact
